An
Analysis of Twas like a Maelstrom, with a notch
by Emily Dickinson
by using moral issues
Poetry is one of part study of
literature. Poetry is a labor of literature that very interesting because
poetry is the form expression of feelings and emotions based on the writer. The
writer of poem that very famous is Emily Dickinson. She is an American poet,
she was born in Massachusetts on December10 in 1830 especially at the Amherst
Homestead. She composed about 1800 poem. One of the famous poem by Emily
Dickinson is “ Twas like a Maelstrom,with
a notch”. In this essay, the writer try to find the moral issues that includes
in that poem.
According
to Chaplin (2006), the suitable moral with rules that organize the customary
law in social or custom or behavior. Wantah (1990) said that moral is
politeness, habit, custom, and manner of behavior that become a habit for the
people in each culture. Based on the statement above, the writer can conclude
that the moral issue is the situation and rules that happen in social life. It
also includes the custom, religion, and behavior of each people in social life.
The moral issue does not have the maker or writer, but it happen naturally in
social life of people. The agreement of the people can be make the rules of
moral issue in each place. As we can see the moral issue in Emily Dickinson
poem, “ Twas like a maelstrom, with a nortch”.
In “ Twas
like a Maelstrom, with a notch”, Emily Dickinson use the religion issues to
describe the situation of the human in that time and describe the religious of
the people. In nineteenth century, during World War I especially in America had
already gave the citizen about the freedom of their religion. In this poem,
Emily Dickinson tried to describe the situation in that time. Emily Dickinson,
believed that Jesus as her religion and her God. The writer of this essay can
find a lot of moral issues in this poem.
First,
the word “Goblin” in three stanza. On the first stanza above, Emily Dickinson
tries to describe the experience as a human with the maelstrom. Then, she
describes another stanza like the nightmare. She also describe the goblin that
symbol of another world that spy on human life. She describe that the goblin
bring the gauge, the representation of the time of human life. She describes a
warning for people about their life. The things that what they do in their life
when the time is coming.
Second,
the word “ God” in four stanza. In this section, she describes that only the
God that can help people to appear all of the disturbing of the problem. When
the people remember about to the God, the will find solve of their problem. In
this stanza, she give the directive to remember to the God when you find the
problem.
Third,
the word “ fiend” in four stanza. It also describe that after we remember the
God, we conscious that the devil will disturb people life, but people must be
brave to oppose it. To rebottles ourselves of the devil. Make sure that we
always remember the God.
Fourth,
the word “ dead” and “perish” in five and six stanza. She describes the die
after life of people. It also make the fear of the people to meet the day of
the die because she describe the reprieve and sadness of the die that all of
people will to experience the death.
To
conclude, the moral issues are about the ways people to understand the
religion, culture, and rules in social life. The poem of Emily Dickinson “Twas
like a Maelstrom, with a notch” is the one example which show the moral issues.
It shows a lot of moral issue in several stanza like the word “God”,etc. The
writer think that the poem is the interesting poem to analyzed it by using
moral issues.

BalasHapusMy group think that this poem tells the reader that we live from God, with God, and back to God. Dickinson tried to tell the reader that how difficult our problem of life is, people have to keep in touch with God. Create good relationship with Him, and believe that He always help human being .
